The Chair Dr Lim Teck Ghee bitched that no one asked Mahathir any tough questions ( He was present and he didn't ask any questions so I guess he thinks others should ask tough questions) - he said OSA and Sedition act stops the media from reporting I guess he thinks state must have no secret and sedition is to be allowed ( different from not agreeign to abuse of these legislation - this is part of the generalisation that I had talked about earlier) - sad to hear the tone of the forum brought down by the chair

Many of course since many things needed to be done but made sure things were in place, that the country was peaceful and the political situation was healthy, finances was sound because many projects needed to continue adn more had to be carried out

bloggers seem to create a situation where readers use blog to back up their opinion by reading blogs that agree with them, failure of analysis not just in MSM but also in new Media

MSM fail to analyse in depth to reflect society while new media too emotional and possibly equally myopic

failure of criticism only one way, always pointing to the other side

DATUK AKJ kicked off the afternoon Malay session 'Bagaimana Media Baru Dapat Membina Pemikiran Kritis' to a much reduced audience, I guess even bloggers can be abit elitist, jika tak pun mereka mengantuk kot lepas makan tengahari

anyway AKJ said that bloggers ned to be more level headed in order to gain more relevance

KOH: Parameters for blogging? complete lack of legal control cannot be good but if there is already a tendency for the public to think that bloggers are no more than peddlers of rubbish then some order must be restored

Then he goes on to make fun of the judiciary and reducing his own presentation to the very caricature that he criticises of the internet, quickly melting any respect I had of him


Philip Koh began the morning by raising questions about the quality of content on the internet. How search engines rank pages and data according to popularity and not according to quality, veracity or any kind of truth yardstick

This is interesting since the chair opened the day with a quote of Datuk Tengku Adnan who was famously rubbished and laughed at for saying that most blogs are a collection of lies by bored housewives and the unemployed. Tengku adnan may have been guilty of extravagant exaggeration but the fact is, the internet is full of idle talk and emotional rant
